For home use, a modest thickness is usually enough. Commercial settings may need a thicker profile and stronger edges to survive carts and foot traffic. Whichever structure is selected, the mat should be placed so its edges do not curl. A curled edge in a kitchen is both a safety issue and a sign that the product may not match the floor conditions.
